What Do Norman Rockwell, Ellen DeGeneres And You Have In Common?

This Week's Simple Tip: This 4th of July will be very different from past years. Last year I was blessed to be at James Taylor's July 4th tradition of an extra special concert at Tanglewood, his Massachusetts hometown venue. What a wonderful memory ... here's Sweet Baby James from that night just in case you want to hear it for your thousandth time! We also visited the nearby Norman Rockwell Museum, where I bought this beautiful refrigerator magnet of Rockwell's 1961 painting, titled Golden Rule. Inspired by the Golden Rule being a universal principle threading through all religions, the painting features men, women, and children of different races, religions, and ethnicities, gathere

Are Your Hands Busy Enough?

This Week's Simple Tip: You know those sticky felt things you put on the bottom of chair legs to make them slide easier? I find myself replacing them every few months when they start falling off. This has been going on for years. But a couple of weeks ago, when they were coming off yet again, it made me crazy! This fascinating short video shows the metamorphosis from eggs to tadpoles to frogs, which is a reminder that I will be bringing them to the pond soon before they can jump! Unlike creatures in nature, humans tend to be creatures of habit. Routines become automatic. Change is more of a "disturbance" that forces us into consciousness which at times can be uncomfortable. Multiple changes at the same time can be unbalancing and/or c

This Week's Simple Tip: This week I started watching Netflix's newest hit series 'Sweet Magnolias,' about three South Carolina women who shepherd each other through the complexities of romance, career, and family. At one point one of the women is questioning her future in a discussion with her mother who gently reminds her that "You chart your own path. If you want to do it, do it. If you think it's a crazy idea, tell them." This is important to remember as things begin to reopen again, and we are likely to find ourselves in situations where we may not yet feel comfortable to do certain things. We need to remind ourselves that it's OK to say "No" to anyone if a request interferes w
