Are You SEEING The Balance?

This Week's Simple Tip

Can you imagine how different it would be if we had a media provision that required a daily balance of positive and negative world events? Think of how much more upbeat viewers would feel! Without such balance, it is up to each of us to open our eyes and pay attention to all the good around us. Today was an errand day for me. I made it a point to just observe people's actions at each of my stops. In a matter of two hours, here is what I saw:

  • The alterations person explained to me why the repair I was asking her to do was not worth the money.

  • The man entering the post office at the same time as me and another person, held the door open for us so we did not have to struggle with the packages we were carrying in to be mailed.

  • The woman in line with an full grocery cart let someone with only two items cut in front of her since her checkout would take awhile.

In that short amount of time, I appreciated the honesty, patience, kindness and consideration of the general public. What a refreshing reassurance! But here is the million dollar catch: I observed. I was not talking on my phone. I was not impatiently fidgeting. I was not texting. I was just taking in each moment. I was not thinking about the past, or where I needed to be later in the day. I was simply watching the events of the present moment unfold.

This Week's Focus

This week, take the opportunity to just observe all the good there is in the world. As you'll see in the short clip below, a small act of kindness can not only make a wonderful impact on someone's life, but make you feel better as well just by observing the kindness in the world.
