Okay, I admit it. I was in the audience on opening day of the Downton Abbey movie, and LOVED it! And being one of those who enjoys watching the coming attractions, I was intrigued by a line from the preview of Bruce Springsteen's Western Stars which releases this week ...

"The older you get, the heavier the baggage becomes that you haven’t let go of."

Contrary to popular beliefs and desires, none of us are exempt from undesirable happenings in life. We all get our share of baggage, or "broken pieces." We all experience ebbs and flows, with both laughs and cries. What makes a difference is not the undesirable event, but more how we handle the situation. If we chose to have a brief pity party and not dwell on misfortunes but move on, they normally have less negative impact in our lives. In contrast. if we "live" the situation daily, and reiterate it to anyone who will listen, we are more likely to end up with an undesireable "woe is me" attitude. It comes down to who manages the emotions of misfortune: YOU or THEM. Either YOU find the strength within you to accept and let go so you move on and enjoy life, or THEY drain you of energy and joy.


This Week's Focus

This week, think about the misfortunes you may be holding on to. You may say you have put them behind you but have you really? If not, try this trick. Write what is bothering you on a rock, dig a hole, and bury the rock and the emotion forever.
