Are You Living The "Hygge" Way?

This Week's Simple Tip

Quarantine was trying in the warmer months but for us to thrive this winter, we can take some tips from the Danish who have learned to enjoy gray, cold and short winter days. They embrace "hygge" (pronounced "hoo-ga") living, a Danish word for a mood of coziness and comfortable joyousness with feelings of wellness and contentment.

Hygge has just as much to do with getting out into nature as it does with getting cozy inside. Spending time in nature has been found to help with mental health problems including anxiety and mild to moderate depression.

Denmark consistently ranks on the top of The World Happiness Report in all six areas of life satisfaction: income, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust and generosity. In comparison, the U.S. ranked #18 in 2020.

Perhaps we would be well served to take a page from the Danes’ book — slow it down, and take time to really enjoy life. Check out 25 Hygge tips to bring more joy and coziness in your life.

This Week's Focus:

This week, indulge in some of life's simple pleasures. Light lots of candles, enjoy a hot drink in a nice cup, curl up with a book, or take a hike. It is working wonders for the Danes, and I hope it works for you too.
