Do You Ever Feel Drained?

Sadly I had to end a friendship earlier this year. We had known each other for nearly 15 years, and were there for each other for the ups and downs of life.

Our past situations always leave scars. By failing to forgive, we only punish ourselves and keep us locked in the past. Her situation left her extremely bitter and hateful, which was very draining for me to be around.

When it is uncomfortable to be around a friend, it’s time to move on.

I did not want to "ghost" her, and abruptly end communications without an explanation so I sent a handwritten note to explain my feelings and behavior. I encouraged her to try to move forward instead of punishing herself by living in the past.

While difficult, I do not regret my actions. It is important for both people to take ownership of their own behavior. I feel relieved to no longer feel drained, and I regularly send positive energy her way.

This Week's Focus:

This week, think of the relationships in your life that may be draining you. Take ownership for how you feel, and do something about it. It feels wonderful to distance yourself from negativity.
