Do You Know One of These People?

I think it is fair to say that we have all been around one of those people at least once! You know ... those people who criticize everyone and everything!! You just want to walk away at the first opportunity you get.

Why do people criticize? As described by shame expert Brené Brown, criticism is a coping mechanism used by people who feel unworthy. It’s purpose is to shift the spotlight off of oneself and onto someone or something else in an effort to feel safe.

That is actually very sad and helpful to understand. While you can sympathize with this emotional need, it doesn’t mean that you need to internalize their messaging.

This Week's Focus:

This week, if and when you find yourself around one of those criticizers, don't take it personally. Remember, it is not about you, or someone you know they are criticizing ... it is about them.

Click on the serenity sticky to print, cut and post on your bathroom mirror to remind you of this week's focus. Good luck!
