Do You Wish Evil Or Love?
A recent online post shared the picture of this little girl sending love to the world. When her mother asked her why she was standing on a piece of paper with a lot of little hearts on it, she told her mom that she was sending love and peace to the people in the world, and the monsters, to “make them nice.”
What a beautiful gesture: to send loving energy out to everyone, to help people and monsters alike. This is true compassion.
I've also been sending energy to the people in the world, including "the monsters." Each morning I repeat four positive, reassuring phrases to myself:
May I be filled with loving kindness
May I be safe from inner and outer dangers
May I be well in mind and body
May I be at ease and happy
After enjoying warmth and self-compassion for a few moments, I then redirect my focus to someone I am very close to, repeating the same four phrases for them. I then do the same repetition for someone I feel neutral towards, someone I find difficult, then all four people, and then for all beings. Lately my chosen difficult person is Vladimir Putin, so each morning I repeat:
May Vladimir Putin be filled with loving kindness
May Vladimir Putin be safe from inner and outer dangers
May Vladimir Putin be well in mind and body
May Vladimir Putin be at ease and happy
Embracing difficult people doesn't mean we agree with their harmful actions, but it means that we create inner space to wish them happiness and wisdom, which will ultimately bring greater peace to all of us. Think about it ... if Putin in this case, were to enjoy all the positive elements I request, we would all enjoy greater peace. So why not send loving energy out to everyone, including "the monsters!?!?"
This Week's Focus:
This week, consider sending love to "monsters" instead of just criticizing them. In many cases, they could use the help more than other beings.
